Attaching To The Wall

General Guidance

Most flat pack furniture is supplied with fittings to attach each piece to the wall for stability. The company policy is as follows:-

"In all cases we will refer you to this guide and let you decide, because it is your choice."

Some items are clearly unstable when not attached to the wall; some just become very solid when attached; and others the need is less obvious. In all cases there is a balance between safety (furniture can kill and injure small children) and what you are permitted to do at your property (many landlords forbid it).

FACT: Every year in the UK at least one small child pulls a wardrobe or similar item of furniture ontop of themselves.

UNSTABLE ITEMS INCLUDE

  • Tall Narrow Wardrobes which tilt or topple when the doors are moved.
  • Bookcases and Cabinets with Doors which topple when the doors are opened.

WARDROBES GENERALLY

It is not always necessary to attach wardrobes to the wall however, extra stability and a solid feel is often desirable especially for sliding door wardrobes. We will only recommend a wardrobe is attached to the wall if we consider it unsafe, and you have children who maybe at risk. However the decision is always yours, we can't force you to do it.

LESS OBVIOUS

Three small children have been killed in the USA by climbing on Ikea's Malm chests of drawers, only for the chest to topple and crush them. There is more about this here.

WHAT WE CHARGE

Items That Must Be Mounted Fully or Partially on Walls

  • Typically TV Wall Units
  • We will advise charges for this in our quotes as it depends on the exact requirement

Wardrobes & Beds with solid brackets.

We charge a fixed fee of £12 for this service, in some cases it is specified as £12 others as 20 mins.

Bookcases, Chests of Drawers and Similar with anti topple straps or brackets

Attaching these to the wall requires less work and we will charge £6 for each item we attach to the wall.

How We Work


  1. Get a Quote
    • Use our online quote engine to get a quote for the furniture you want assembling.
  2. Book an Appointment
    • Use our online automated booking process, or.
    • We will then ask you to give us 3 dates when you want us to come.
    • We will confirm the appointment we can do within 1 hr (during normal opening hours).
  3. We do your Job
    • We will arrive within your appointment start time (1 hour window ie 2-3pm).
    • We will assemble your furniture.
  4. After the Job
    • Our Assembler will close the job down.
    • We send you payment details (*) and a link to close the job, provide feedback etc.
    • We send you a receipt and our guarantee.
