We assemble furniture so you don’t have to.

Assembly Recruitment.

We want our assemblers to be the best, and this means:

  • Arriving on time,
  • Doing what we have agreed to to the best of our ability,
  • Charging what we said we would charge, and if this differs being clear and transparent explaining why before we do so,
  • Dealing with and communicating clearly any issues that might arise, and
  • Being friendly and easy to deal with.

We do everything we can before each job to ensure each job runs as smoothly as it can, and wrap it up afterwards and pay you for the work as quickly as we get paid.

The only way this can work is if we stick to our systems and procedures from the customer's initial enquiry, to our quote, to booking a job with us, to our assemblers doing the work, and then the final part getting paid and getting great feedback.

As an assembler:

  • You will need to commit to following our “Anatomy of a Job” process on each job you do. This provides a consistent structure from when you knock on a customers door until you leave. If you stick to it, you will not encounter any difficulties you cannot deal with, and it ensures you stay in control of the job from start to finish, so when it comes to getting paid, this is a formality and you will have a happy customer, even if you make a mistake during the assembly.

  • You will need to learn the things we think you should know, from the basics of assembling furniture, some key legal issues and some details about the relevant British Standards that affect the products we build.

We will help you with all of the above and provide you with all the information you need. We don't expect you to know it all from day one, which is why we will do jobs with you, until we are confident you can do work on your own.

Many flat pack items like chest of drawers, tables and beds are very easy to build, however there are some items, such as loft beds and big heavy wardrobes that can be daunting and if approached in the wrong way can become very difficult indeed. We will show you 'on the job' the correct way to do the more challenging jobs.

How much can I earn?

Well this is the killer question, and really it is down to you. If you think smart and work smart you can earn a lot of money. So you need to work quickly and not waste time.

  • Customers will waste your time if you let them, not intentionally, but they will, which is why if you stick to our “Anatomy of a Job” you won't give them the opportunity.
  • When you first build say the two drawer Malm bedside table from Ikea, it will take you 30-60 minutes, if we pay say £10 to build it and you can do one or two in an hour that is £10-£20 an hour. I have been doing this for 20 years, and can easily do 10 in an hour ie earn £100 if we pay £10 for each one. This is repeatable for almost every item of furniture. It will take 2-3 years to get up to a decent speed without making mistakes, no matter how good you think you are, it takes time to become really fast and build to a high standard, every time you do a job.

The basic things you should focus on are:

  • Always work to the highest standard you can and always right first time, never cut corners and think. “oh that will do”. The last thing you want is for a customer to insist you redo your work, or come back to rectify a problem because that costs you money. This is harder than it sounds but absolutely necessary.

  • Learn techniques to avoid mistakes, avoid damaging furniture during assembly and to build furniture efficiently and quickly without cutting corners.

I can assure you, there are plenty of very good assemblers out there who are busy fools working 6-7 days a week earning £10k-£15k a year because they haven't positioned themselves properly and do not have the systems in place that we (and our franchisees) do. For these people their businesses are not only running their lives, they're wasting the money that they have earned.

As a sole assembler, following our systems you can earn £30k-£40k working 5 days a week, and have the opportunity to grow your business into something much much more.

However you must be realistic, you won't earn this sort of money in your first year, second year maybe, but in your third year provided you follow our system and work diligently, we think you will. Once you've done it and got there, you have a job and income for life that no one can take away from you. That is freedom, security and one of the most liberating things you can achieve. I know,  I've been doing it for over 20 years.

If you would like to find out more and see if you are a suitable fit with our company please fill in the recruitment forms on the link below. We ask some fairly frank questions so we can assess where you are in your journey as a flat pack assembler.
